Discmania signs Lizotte

Simon Lizotte Team Discmania

On the brink of the European disc golf season we are extremely happy and proud to announce the new Team Discmania member: Simon Lizotte! Further introductions aren’t really necessary for the reigning European Champion and #3 ranked player in Europe. We are looking forward to a season that is undoubtedly going to be very exciting. Join us and follow Simon’s feats throughout the season.

An interview with Simon

The anticipated European disc golf season kick-off, Dutch Open, is just a few days away. It is also the first event where Simon will be representing Discmania. We had a welcome opportunity to catch Simon for a quick interview prior to the event.

Q: How do you feel when you are now signed up with Discmania?

Simon: Me playing with Team Discmania feels amazing. I really enjoy the new equipment and the teamspirit. I love the style and the people working with me now and believe we can do great things together in the future.

Q: What did make you to choose Discmania?

Simon: I chose to go with Discmania because I feel very comfortable with the team, I love the discs and the style. Just looking at the statistics, how Discmania has done in the past years, made me want to be a part of the Discmania team. I totally trust the system and want to help achieve all the amazing goals for the upcoming years.

Q: What are your main goals for the season?

Simon: My goals for this season are winning the German-Tour, the Euro-Tour, winning every german tournament I play, most Euro-Tour tournaments and playing the 2013 USDGC. But my main goal this season is to play at my best level consistently. I think it is important to have fun so I really want to do well this year!

Q: What´s in your bag right know?

Simon: My new Putter is the D-Line P2 Psycho. I feel very comfortable with this disc and it’s not a big change to the Aviar. For midrange throws I use both the MD1 and MD2. I really like the SG-Line MD1. It’s an overstable midgrange disc with a great feel to it. My C-Line MD2 is a super straight flyer with a soft turn at the end. My choice when I need a controlled, low and straight upshot.

My new favourite driver is the C-Line PD2. It’s probably my favourite distance driver ever because I can trust it 100%. It’s so overstable that it can handle my armspeed with no problems. I also use the S-Line PD2 for max. distance. It’s really fast and not so overstable. For straight fairway shots I use my probably favourite Discmania disc. The C-Line FD. It’s comparable to the TeeBird from Innova and can do about anything. I use it for low and straight shots, for long anhyzer shots and for long hyzer shots. My really overstable driver is the Champion Firebird. I use it in windy conditions, for shorter hyzer shots and sidearm throws.

Q: What is your prediction for top-3 in upcoming EuroTour start in Netherlands?

Simon:
1. Simon Lizotte
2. Sylvain Gouge
3. Maxime Tanghe

European Open 2013

As some of you may know, many of us here at Discmania are also heavily involved in organizing the European Open disc golf tournament. This year marks the 5th time the European Open will be organized and the city of Nokia in Southern Finland will once again serve as the hosting city. Widely considered to be the most prestigious disc golf event of the old continent, the European Open was the first PDGA Major event in Europe and continues to be the longest running Major in the European Disc Golf scene.

The European Open Experience

This year European Open Experience consists of 3 different events, all taking place within a 10-day period in July. These events are The European Open Preliminary, Disc Golf President’s Cup and The European Open itself. Between the 3 events there’s 50,000 USD cash prizes to be dealt out to those who drop the best scores in these events. You can find more information about the European Open Experience from this article at the European Open website. We here at Discmania being an integral part of the tournament itself, we can assure you that this is an experience you do not want to miss.

Registration Open now!

The phase 1 of registration for the European Open has just been opened. At this point current members of the PDGA that have a rating of 975 or more in the MPO division and 900 or more in the FPO division are eligible to register. Players with rating lower than 975/900 get their chance of registering at a later phase. See the qualification process here.

We wish to see many of you at Nokia this July. This will be a Disc Golf event of the highest level and we cordially invite everyone reading this blog to take part in the experience. No matter whether your a Pro level player or just interested in in the sport as a spectator, this event has a lot to offer.

Be sure to visit the European Open website for more info:

An interview with the United States Disc Golf Champion, Will Schusterick

As anyone who’s been paying any attention to PDGA tour this year knows, Team Discmania’s Will Schusterick has had a phenomenal year with 2 Major titles and several other wins in and out of United States. Early this month Will became the first person after Ken “the Champ” Climo to repeat his victory in Disc Golf world’s most prestigious event, the United States Disc Golf Championships.

Will Schusterick USDGC Champion 2012

We had the opportunity to ask some questions from the young man himself about the USDGC and beyond. Read the interview below:

1. Congrats for the great win at USDGC! You’re the first mortal to repeat his title after Ken Climo. How does it feel like being compared to the Champ himself?
- It is hard to compare myself to the Champ right now, maybe in the future hopefully, but he has so many accomplishments it is going to take a lot of practice to get there!

2. At which point did you know the title was yours?
- I was only sure I had the title when I made my last putt. There was a lot of back and fourth going on between me and Ricky anything could have happened.

3. How do feel about the OB rule change this year? Would you consider it helped you win the title on contrary? Would you like to see the same rule in effect in other tournaments?
- I was not a huge fan of the rule change this year. I would not want to think that it “helped” me win this year. Since usually the person who wins the tournament does not go OB anyways. I would like to see the same rules as everywhere in the country which would be standard OB rules.

4. Are you still heading on the road or is it time to take a little break after an achievement like that?
- Being on the road and taking a break sometimes go hand-in-hand. I will have a lot of time in the winter to reflect on my achievements from this year and look forward into next year.

5. What does your tour schedule look like for 2013? Many international tournaments? Which ones are you looking forward the most?
- I hope for many international tournaments! In 2013 I am hopefully going to pick and choose 25-30 of the best tournaments to go to (maybe less) and really focus on each one. I woud like to be able to slow down on playing every weekend and actually be 100% focused on every tournament. Its hard to do that when every day your either traveling or playing.

6. Which Discmania models do you use the most and for what type of shots?
- During the USDGC I used a lot of the C-Line DD for long drives that were also needing accuracy. I practiced with it for a couple weeks and really trusted the way that it flew. I also threw the C-Line Signature Will Schusterick First Run PD for dead straight/turnover drives. I felt very confident pulling out both of those discs.

7. Who do you consider to be your worst (best) competitor on the course?
- There are so many good players these days that its hard to beat anybody if your not ready to play.

8. Any tips for upcoming Disc Golfers on how to get out there and start winning titles?
- Go out and play as much as you can. Throw as many shots as you can, putt as much possible until your body won’t allow you to do anymore.

Will Schusterick, Team Discmania

You heard the man, so get out and practice! Once again congrats Will for an amazing season so far!
