Aussie Championships this weekend!

Probably the most interesting event in the PDGA schedule for the low season, the Australian Disc Golf Championships, will kick off tomorrow at 9:45 AM (EDT). Along with the great local players from Australia & New Zealand, there’s also some international color in the competition. Educational Disc Golf Experience, or EDGE has brought Jay & Des Reading to Tasmania to compete in the tournament and to educate locals on this fine cause. Jay is considered one of the biggest winner candidates this year in the MPO division, while Des seems to be a very solid bet in the FPO division.

Challenging the 3-time world putting Champ will be the 1st time Aussie visitors Jussi Meresmaa and Juho Rantalaiho from Team Discmania. Jussi & Juho have been in Australia for almost a couple of weeks now talking and teaching disc golf and everything should be ready for our guys to take the title home. Below is a couple of snapshots from the trip, make sure you check out also the previous ones from our facebook page.

Playing & teaching Disc Golf in Australia

Melbourne Cup

As we mentioned in our previous post, Discmania CEO Jussi Meresmaa & Team Discmania member Juho Rantalaiho are in Australia at the moment getting ready for the Australian Disc Golf Championships, to be held this weekend in Poimena Disc Golf Course in Tasmania. Last weekend the boys attended a warm-up competition for the Aussie Championships, Melbourne Cup, which was part of the Australian Tour. The weekend’s weather was sunny but windy and Jussi was able to grab the number 1 position in this 2-round competition with a total of 98 strokes. Second place went to Josh Smith who shot an impressive 51 at the first round and were able to keep Team Discmania’s Juho Rantalaiho behind him by one stroke while placing Juho 3rd in the competition.

Here’s a couple of pics from the tournament:

Disc Golf missionaries

As we’ve said before, one of Discmania’s main objectives as a disc manufacturer is to spread the joyous word of Disc Golf around the world. While being down under, our boys haven’t missed a chance to preach about this great sport to local people. Here’s a couple of photos with Juho teaching a group of local school kids how to sink those putts:

Discmania hits Australia

A little over a week until the Australian Disc Golf Championships and we’ve got our two Disc Golf missionaries – Discmania CEO Jussi Meresmaa & Juho Rantalaiho making their way towards the tournament site. Before touching down at Tasmania, where the tournament is held this year, our boys stopped by at Perth to meet & greet our local retailer, Down Under Disc golf Revolution or DUDE. Make sure to check them out if you happen to be in the neighborhood!

We at Discmania are all about getting worldwide exposure to the great game of Disc Golf and what would be a greater place for Disc Golf than Australia with it’s vast untapped areas and laid-back atmosphere. Our boys also introduced the sport to some native inhabitants of Australia as you can see from the photos below. They were seemingly interested in this sport – some of them even had they’re own built-in bags suitable for keeping your favorite putter always at hand ;D

We’ll do our best keeping you posted on stuff going on down under, as the main event of Australian Disc Golf is drawing near. Best way to stay updated is to follow the tournament website. We’ll also possibly be posting some stuff & pics from the tournament to our facebook-page, so might want to go ahead and click that like-button if you haven’t already.

BTW: If you want to grab yourself a fundraiser disc supporting the tournament, at least Finnish retailers still have some left ;)
