Finnish Doubles Championships were held at Peurunka Disc Golf Course last weekend and the freshly crowned Finnish Champion Seppo Paju‘s game was once again too hot to handle for the other competitors. Seppo and his pair Teemu Nissinen were tied for the first place after Saturday, but forgot to sign their score, allowing a 2-stroke lead to Antti Heikkilä & Marko Jokimäki. The two-stroke lead wasn’t enough to keep Seppo & Teemu behind as after the next round they were back on top with seven stroke lead. The finals were merely a formality for the boys and yet another title was handed out to 16-year-old Seppo, who’s had a phenomenal season so far.
The silver medal was also awarded to Team Discmania player, as Leo Piironen and his pair Ilari Tuoma were placed second in the competition. If you haven’t been following our facebook page or Youtube Channel recently, chances are you’ve missed the latest brief disc introduction clips from both Seppo & Leo. So take a moment to check out how the champs like to handle some of their favorite discs:
In Finland a whole new tour called Discmania Cash Money Tour saw the light of day for the first time this weekend. The first tournament in the 4 tournament series, equivalent to the U.S. National Tour, was played at the always sunny Lauste DiscGolfPark in Turku, Finland. A Turku native Seppo Paju ruled the homecourse in open division despite his sticky first round which placed him on the tied ninth place together with 5 other players. The win in Turku marked the third consecutive tournament win in open division for 16-year-old Seppo as he won both of the two tournaments he attended last weekend too. The storm warning has been given!
In women’s division, a fellow Turku native and Team Discmania member Anne Matilainen took the title with ease by a spread of 38 strokes before Laura Uusi-Rasi who was placed second. Other Team Discmania members Jesse Heinonen (8th in MPO) and Leo Piironen (10th in MPO) didn’t quite reach the level they we’re aiming for this weekend, but thankfully there’s a whole bunch of competitions left for 2011. Extra props are handed out to Discmania’s own Juho Rantalaiho who once again did a great job as the Tournament Director in Lauste.
First glimpse to the Team Discmania 2011 is here! Seppo Paju and Leo Piironen were promoted from Discmania Junior team to play with the big boys next year.

Seppo’s track record from last year include pretty convincing highlights: Seppo won the Boys U16 World Championship title in the AM Worlds and was crowned European Champion in the Junior Division late August. Next year Seppo will be playing with all-Discmania bag and according to his plans, he’ll play all tournaments in the Open division. We expect great things to come for this aspiring 16-year-old.

Leo also showed some great results this year by taking the title in the Finnish championships in the Juniors U19-division and winning the same division in the prestigious Stockholm Open. We are certain these achievements will find company in Leo’s trophy cabinet in 2011 and beyond!
We are very proud of these kids as they’re not just great players, but great athletes altogether. And don’t take just our word for it, have a look what a co-player had to say about Seppo:
More team members will be revealed in the following weeks, as the crew is starting to shape up. So be sure to stay tuned by facebook or RSS-feed!
