Fifth Place Finish for Shue at 2018 Great Lakes Open

Tour / Promotions

While many of the top disc golfers in the world have already traveled to Europe for a series of tournaments, including the first PDGA Major for the open division, a number of big names were still stateside for the latest Disc Golf Pro Tour event this past weekend.

The 2018 Great Lakes Open took the action to the notable Toboggan Course in Milford, Michigan. The traditional home of the United States Amateur Disc Golf Championship, the Toboggan Course brings many elevation changes, tight holes, and plenty of distance. It’s a combination that will test anyone.

Shue Rides Birdies to Fifth Place

It is easy to focus on the distance required at the Toboggan Course, but you can’t forget the accuracy needed in order to post a low score. Team Discmania’s Grady Shue was able to stay out of trouble and rack up the birdies to finish in a tie for fifth at the three-round event.

Shue was in the mix from the start thanks to a 54 (-9) that put him in a tie for sixth to open the tournament.

As the tournament continued, Shue continued to remain out of trouble and used a second round 56 (-7) to remain toward the top of the leaderboard.

The final day of play saw Shue bring his best round yet. His 53 (-10) was one of the hottest rounds of the day. Twelve birdies were combined with one double-bogey over the last 18 holes.

Through the 54 holes, Shue was one of the most accurate disc golfers in the field hitting 80.7% of the fairways.

This finish marks his second straight top-10 finish on the DGPT.

Team Discmania Results

T5. Grady Shue (-26)
T48. Bart Kowalewski (-13)
