After the massive success of the Red Edition Mystery Boxes - now sold out worldwide - anticipation for our 2025 Black Edition is running high. Similarly to the Red Edition boxes, we're giving you the power of choice with 4 different box options. In this article we put together a lot of useful information on the Black Edition boxes in particular.
We also covered a lot of ground on a wide range of topics concerning our 2025 Mystery Boxes in this article about the Red Edition release, a lot of which applies on these ones as well. Neither of these write-ups are exactly short reads, but if you know us, you'll know we aim to be as thorough as we can.
Get yours in time for the holidays
This year it's actually possible to get a Black Edition box home before the holidays.
For the first time ever, this year it's actually possible to place an order for a Black Edition Mystery box and receive it before the holidays. Sounds simple enough, but in the past we've always timed the Black Edition releases between Christmas and New Year's, which has typically created a fairly backwards scenario where we've sold a lot of product at a time when there's not really any staff at the warehouse to get those orders shipped out. This has been frustrating to many customers who have been forced to wait for their orders to get processed, let alone delivered for several weeks in worst cases.
Yeah, that didn't make a lot of sense, and those days are now behind us. Sometimes reinventing one's game can be as simple as taking a look at a calendar. It's worth noting though that there isn't a whole lot of time between the release dates and the holidays, so it's highly advisable to place your order as early as possible. Which brings up our next point...
We're not sure if we made enough of these
Predicting demand can be tricky. With Mystery Box releases at the end of the year we typically need to lock down the product selection and production quantities sometime between April and June. We obviously have all kinds of data to draw conclusions from, but if you have been following disc golf for past half a decade or so, you'll know we've seen some pretty huge changes in product demand and availability in recent years.
Hitting the sweet spot of getting a box in the hands of everyone who wants one while not leaving any excess stock lying around is pretty difficult. Seeing as the Red Edition boxes sold out pretty swiftly with certain versions probably running out way before everyone who would have fancied one got their order in, we think it's probably pretty advisable to place your order right when the boxes get released.

As we noted already prior to the Red Edition release, there's fewer boxes made this year overall than on years past. Additionally, there's fewer Black Edition boxes than there was of the Red Editions. As you divvy the fewer + fewer equation down to the level of individual box versions, the quantities per box type actually get pretty slim. So please be advised - If you're not ready to pull the trigger when the release countdown runs to zero, it's very possible you'll miss out, especially if you're looking to lock down what ever turns out to be the most popular of the 4 box versions. Which brings up another point...
Two release dates
The dates you need to remember are Tuesday, Dec 9th and Wednesday, Dec 10th, depending on which box(es) you will be gunning for.
For the Black Editions we decided to split up the release into two release windows, one for Shield Club members including one out of the four box versions + the All In Bundle, while the remaining 3 box versions get their release the following day. The main reason we did this was because we wanted to make sure our Shield Club members get first dibs and so that we can prioritize order processing for those of you who are ready to go big and get the full spread in the form of the bundle product.
Now, it's worth noting that at the time of writing we have not yet revealed what the details of the Shield Club exclusive "Version 4" box are, but what we can say is that there's a pretty finite supply of them. We're talking a substantially smaller number than there was in stock for the Shield Club exclusive "Wild Card" box on the Red Edition. This is to say, we're pretty sure that by the time the other 3 box versions get released on Wednesday, Dec 10th, there won't be any of the "Version 4's" left in stock. The All In Bundle also draws inventory from the very same supply as the standalone boxes, so it's pretty likely those will be gone fast as well. If you're looking to get your hands on all of them, be ready when the Shield Club release happens on Tuesday, Dec 9th.

No reservations on the shopping cart
Speaking of being ready, you should know that, come release time, in case there turns out to be more buyers aiming to put in their order than there is supply available, those who are able to go through all of hoops of placing the order fastest will be the ones who will end up getting their boxes. This means all necessary information filled out, payment steps completed and the store "Thank you for your order" page loaded on your screen. In this game having the product in your cart just means you showed up to the course, not that you won the tournament. We know that might feel a little crude, but that's just how it goes. If you do end up missing out on the Tuesday release, there's still the Wednesday to to look ahead to.
Fill your cart in advance
Should the inventory not be sufficient against the demand come the release time, the one thing you don't want to do is to lose precious time on things you easily could have done ahead of the of the release. One easy step is getting logged in and having your payment method of choice ready to go. Another one is filling your cart in advance with what ever products you want to include in your Mystery Box order.
The boxes fit extra discs, put that space to use!
We mentioned in the article about the Red Edition release that while the classic Mystery Box packages are nice and all, the format we're currently using for Mystery Boxes has rendered those classic box designs a bit outdated, due to the sheer size of the boxes and the secret bottom compartment that doesn't really have the same purpose it used to. Well, the same pretty much rings true with the Black Editions, meaning there's actually a good bit of extra space in the boxes that can easily fit up to 5 additional discs.
$5 off 3-disc bundles with the code GIMME5

Since we don't love the idea of shipping excess air, we're offering you the chance to add any of our sweet 3-disc bundles to your Mystery Box order and getting $5 off the bundle products. Just be sure to add the code GIMME5 at checkout to redeem the offer. These bundles are already marked down significantly from what the contents would cost when bought separately, so you're getting a pretty sweet deal here. We're talking, for example, around $15 per disc on signature discs, while bought separately those go for up to $26 a pop.
Buy 2+ Mystery Boxes for 10% off each
Besides the 3-disc bundle combo deal we're keeping the 10% discount on multiples deal going that you might remember from the Red Edition boxes, ie. you'll get a 10% discount on each Mystery Box product you buy, should you buy more than one. The -10% deal applies to our MB Value Packs as well - Even the ridiculously priced deal on the Factory Blanks box - and can be combined with the $5 off a 3-disc bundle deal as well.

Worth noting: Combining the offers mentioned above may not necessarily be possible with other discount codes.
Shipping is on us (in most cases)
Contrary to some years past, we're extending the free shipping deals to apply to Mystery Boxes as well. The free shipping applies to Economy rates on orders over $75 inside the United States. This means that you'll automatically get free US shipping on all orders including at least one Black Edition box - Do note that with the holidays coming, economy rates are not likely going to be the fastest options.
Let's talk overlap
Something to note on the Black Edition boxes is that like with the Red Editions, the discs used in these boxes are fully produced for this purpose only. We're not dusting off some deadstock inventory and filling up the boxes with those with a side order of one or two shiny distractions. Everything found here was produced over summer/fall 2025 with one intention in mind - including them in these Mystery Boxes.
Producing such a wide array (almost 50!) of different specialty runs poses a challenge in itself. With a total of 9 different box versions between the Red & Black Editions, a certain degree of overlap is pretty much unavoidable if we still want to keep the box contents a Mystery, as opposed to making every single box within a box version exactly the same.
So, essentially, this is a long-winded way of saying that some of the mold/plastic combinations that were featured on certain versions of the Red Edition boxes can also be found from certain versions of the Black Edition boxes. Similarly, certain combinations that are featured in one of the Black Edition versions might also be featured on another Black Edition version. The versions are not 100% different, but there are mold/plastic combinations that occur more rarely than others and even there is overlap, the stamps used should be different between the different box versions.
Creator Series boxes are pretty magical

There is one notable exception to the overlap thing though, and that's the Black Edition Creator Series box. The discs used in that box version have next to no overlap whatsoever between the other box versions. There's only one exception to this, and it's a bit of a gem anyway, so we're expecting those being nothing but a nice surprise.
The Creator Series box is packed with pure gems, using only molds that enjoy the Creator Series status - including some we haven't been producing in a while. Most of them come in mixes of plastics/effects we've never used on them before, while there’s also at least one hidden gem from the past seeing a remake. We do expect the Creator Series boxes to be quite popular and just likely with the other box versions, the availability is quite limited, so do not sleep on them!
Premier technology debuts in Mystery Boxes in 2026
As we already mentioned around the Red Edition release, our groundbreaking Premier technology unfortunately was not ready enough around the time the discs for these Mystery Boxes were produced, effectively meaning the timeline on adding Premier discs to either Edition of the 2025 Mystery Boxes did not work out. As a rule of thumb, the actual discs used in both Red and Black Edition boxes are produced around the same time, so the later release date on the Black ones did not really make much of a difference in that regard, We have some pretty sweet Premier stuff coming up in 2026 though, so don’t you worry :)
Inventory management is hard
Most people would be amazed with how many moving parts there actually are in these Mystery Box projects. Most times everything goes smoothly, but sometimes bogeys happen. In the case of the Black Edition boxes, one rather major one was the fate of the Mini Shield Box. The intention on that one was to use the iconic Mini Shield stamp on all discs going into those boxes, but unfortunately, in the US, we weren’t quite able to achieve that. The mold/plastic selection used on the Mini Shield boxes is exactly the same between the 2 Discmania Stores, but in the case of DMStore USA, the stamp selection will be a bit of a mixed bag. Due to this clear bogey on our side, the Mini Shield box is offered at a discounted price at Discmania Store USA.
Prices vary a bit
Since we're in the topic of pricing, we wanted to bring up the note that there's now a separate price point for 2 of the 4 boxes, effectively 10% higher than the usual box price. The reasoning here is the fact that while the number of discs inside the boxes remain the same, there's other factors like royalty costs involved with the products inside the boxes that cause them to cost a premium. We wanted to keep the difference as low as possible though and firmly believe that the 1/10th increase in price is abundantly made up with the goodies inside.
You might find a hidden disc, or not.
One more thing we mentioned with the Red Boxes applies to the Black Editions as well - There's likely going to be a bit of a difference between how the boxes are packed in the US vs Europe. This difference namely being the use of the secret compartment in the bottom. Most likely on boxes ordered from DMStore Europe the bottom compartment will have been left blank, while on the boxes ordered stateside, one of the discs included in the selection in question will likely be hidden in the bottom. Not optimal, we know, but at least everybody gets the same discs, they're just packed a little different.

So when can I expect to receive my order?
As stated above, we’re happy to say that the days of waiting for your Black Edition Mystery Boxes for several weeks on end are now officially behind us. Order processing kicks off right from the release dates and the best way to get yourself on top of the queue is by placing an order right when the Shield Club Exclusive box version & the All In Bundle drop on Tuesday, Dec 9th.
Now, we are expecting pretty massive amounts of orders coming in a very condensed timeframe, so some delays to our usual 0-1 day processing schedule are certainly expected. Please refer to our Holiday shipping schedule for important dates on hitting the carrier provided schedules to ensure timely delivery before the holidays.
But if you really want an unfiltered opinion on when you should place your order, place it the very second the products you're looking to buy become available. As stated above, we're not really sure if there's enough of these to go around, so it's better to be safe than sorry.
Now, get yours and get it early!
If you’ve made it this far — thank you! We put a lot of time and effort into our Mystery Box campaign each year, and explaining all the details that go into these boxes (while still keeping the mystery intact) isn’t always easy. Sure, there’s always some marketing flair involved, but we take pride in being as upfront and honest as possible about what you can expect if you decide to pick one up. This year, we really set out to rethink the whole concept and address the feedback we’ve received in the past and we think these boxes will stand the test of time a lot better than some of the ones from the past.
We understand that, in today’s economy, the price of the box is a meaningful investment for many. And with disc prices climbing, seeing fewer discs than in past years might initially feel like a step down. But the way we see it, the value really comes from cutting out the “fillers” and committing fully to purpose-produced discs. When you add in the multi-box discounts and free shipping, we believe the overall package is genuinely strong - and we hope you’ll agree.
