2025 Red Edition Mystery Boxes - What to expect?

The Mystery Box is back, reinvented! Here is a bit of a deep-dive in both this year's Red Edition Mystery Boxes and the world Discmania Mystery Boxes in general. It's not exactly a 2-minuted read, but there's tons of useful info here for those curious about the Discmania Mystery Boxes.

Reinvented based on customer feedback

We've been in the Mystery Box game for a long time. We were the first disc golf brand to introduce the concept to the sport and since the humble beginnings, the selection of different Mystery Box products across different brands and retailers has expanded to massive proportions.

While our Mystery Boxes are generally are much loved among our fans, a Mystery Box is always a Mystery to its recipient. This means we can only make guesses on what each customer wants and with such a wide customer base, hitting the right balance can be a tall task. While we've seen a lot of amazing feedback for our boxes over the year, there has certainly also been situations where some customers haven't been fully satisfied with what they have found in their boxes. Our main objective for the 2025 Winter Boxes was to look at what you, the fans, have considered points of improvement in our past Mystery Boxes and concentrate our focus on making those things better.

Quality over quantity

For years, we've leaned heavily on our classic Mystery Box value promise - We've always guaranteed a minimum of 150% value for box contents compared to the MSRP's. This is great on paper, but at the same time, value in itself is a highly personal concept. If you receive a disc you don't have any use for, say a plastic + mold combination you've already tried and didn't end up using, the value you feel is likely going to be quite different compared to a disc you perceive being cool and can't wait to try. Looking at prices alone, both of the aforementioned products might carry the same value, but on a personal level the values differ greatly.

A fairly common theme of frustration on Mystery Boxes of the past has been the inclusion of stock discs - often seen as “fillers.” In recent years, our boxes have typically combined a few newly produced, Mystery Box exclusive discs with some misprints and stock models. This approach has made sense for us operationally: new production is more expensive than using existing inventory, and we want customers to discover new favorites that can be easily replaced. With the 150% minimum MSRP value requirement, creating boxes made entirely of purpose-produced discs simply hasn’t been economically feasible.

So, what to do if the "fillers" start causing more disappointment than joy, at least for some? If the boxes don't feel like they deliver that 50% added value, even though the actual math checks up? The simple solution is to remove the fillers, and that's exactly what we've done.

The Glow Mania box includes only discs made with premium Glow materials

No fillers - Fully purpose-produced

All discs found in the Winter 2025 Mystery Boxes are specifically produced for these boxes. Nothing comes from existing inventory. Between all versions of the 2025 boxes there's a total of almost 50 individual models made exclusively for this cause, combining popular molds and plastics from our Originals & Evolution lines. A huge junk of these models are something we've never produced before, while others may have been previously featured as popular limited edition runs that no longer are available.

We’ve also sprinkled in some all new plastics and effects never released before, along with several rare or entirely new stamp designs across this broad range of Mystery plastic. With such a wide variety of overall disc options and the total number of boxes reduced from previous years, the run sizes for each model in these boxes are quite small, making them highly collectable, if that's your thing.

Value Packs offer the most bang for your buck

For those not that interested in chasing the newest and most exclusive products and simply looking to get their hands on a big pile of new plastic at a great price, we've created a new breed of Mystery Box products - The Value Packs. Depending on the product you choose, you get up to 210% return for you money, MSRP-wise. The Value Packs come in a bit less decorated packaging and the models used are not the newest and most exclusive discs fresh off the production, but all of the discs used in the boxes are game-tested, solid picks from our line-up that can help you lower your score.

The Value Packs are a great budget friendly option.

If you're not too fuzzy about what the stamps say and whether the discs are special this and limited that, the Value Packs are an awesome bet. They also are something we aim to keep in the selection a bit more continuously, while our flagship Mystery Box products will remain seasonal.

Choose you mystery

The Red Edition Boxes come in 5 different themes

Something completely new this year is your power of choice. For the Red Edition, we've prepped 5 different box types, all with their own theme. You can find good information on what's to be expected inside each one the versions from their respective products descriptions:

Looking back, adding the element of choice here feels a bit like a no-brainer. We're not going to tell exactly what's in any of the box versions, but we want to gently nudge you towards choosing a box that is most likely going to be something that the you appreciate, be that easy-to-throw discs in the noodle arm box or 100% premium glow-in-the-dark discs for those that enjoy playing after the sun goes down - Or just the premium feel of glow plastics in general. After all, if we're able to provide you discs you really enjoy, everybody wins.

We left out the fillers on the Red Edition Boxes this year

Despite the different versions, the Mystery remains

It's worth noting though, that within the separate box versions, there's still differences between one box and the next. Across the five versions, some contain 6 discs while others contain 7, and each is built from a pool of 7–11 possible models. From the mold-and-plastic standpoint, there will always be some overlap between boxes of the same type, but the variety of colors produced for most combinations adds plenty of overall variation.

There's also some overlap on plastic+mold combinations between the box types themselves. This means that say, a disc you can find in a Wild Card box could also appear in the Fan Favorites box. This overlap is pretty minimal though, so if you buy two different types of boxes, the chances of you getting multiples of several models are pretty slim. If you're wondering why such overlap exists, there's two pretty simple reasons - Should there be just one set of possible plastic+mold combinations per a box type, we'd run out of viable options pretty quickly. And also, we can't really sustainably produce multiple runs of, say less than 200 discs, which is something that would be required if we want to fully rule out any overlap. Which brings up another point...

Fewer boxes overall, get yours early!

Within the past few years we've in simple terms overshot the demand. It's not too long ago when there was a time when for the life of us, we couldn't produce enough Mystery Boxes (and discs in general) to facilitate the demand. You might remember this time as one where there was a rampant pandemic happening and disc golf experienced a sudden boom. Our incapability to meet the demand resulted in a lot of frustration online as people we're bummed they weren't able to get the products they were looking to purchase. This led to us (and most every other disc golf company) going on overdrive to produce as much of everything as possible. Mystery Boxes were not saved from the overproduction that inevitably followed as the boom died down.

We've come a long way from the types of production quantities seen on Mystery Boxes from a few years past

Since those boom years, predicting demand has become pretty tricky. We know there's some frustration among our fans over the fact that as the following season has kicked off we've listed some Mystery Box exclusive products on our stores standalone products. This has never been our intention, but a simple result of overproduction - If there's products left once the Mystery Season is over, we've had little choice but to sell them.

All this being said, this time around we've taken a much more conservative approach to production quantities. The discs used in these boxes represent a pretty sweet body of work we do not intend to offer outside these boxes. We've kept the production quantities low to do what we can to facilitate that. And as you break things down to the level of different box types, the quantities get real tight. This is to say, do not sleep on the release for these ones, as it's pretty likely we'll see at least some of the box types selling out early. If you're considering Mystery Box shopping for gifts, we know the holidays are still a bit far away, but locking down your order early might be the safe bet on these ones.

Mix & match on multiples, get 10% off each

With all the different Mystery Box options available this year, we know it can be hard to pick just one. That's why we're offering 10% off each box - Value Packs included - If you pick up at least 2 on a single order. The discount activates automatically when you add at least 2 Mystery Box products in in your cart. Or you can always go for the Ultimate Mystery - The All In Bundle that gives you more than 15% off on all Red Edition Mystery Box versions in a single buy.

The All In Bundle comes with all 5 versions of the Red Edition Box

Be advised though - As there's pretty limited numbers of each Mystery Box type available, the All In Bundle will only be available as long as there's stock left on all of the 5 Red Edition Box types. There's no separate stock on hold for the bundle product this year. It's also good to understand that as a bundle product, the All In Bundle is excluded from the aformentioned 10% discount on multiples.

Shipping is on us (in most cases)

Contrary to some years past, we're extending the free shipping deals to apply to Mystery Boxes as well. The free shipping applies to Economy rates on orders over $75 inside the United States. This means that you'll automatically get free US shipping on all orders including at least one Red Edition box.

When can I expect my box to arrive?

The short version is: We start Mystery Box shipping on Monday, November 10th and expect to get all boxes ordered during the release day and the adjacent weekend by Friday, Nov 14th. Some delays are possible for any order placed during the week 46, but things should normalize pretty quickly after that.

As for the long version... We're well aware this is topic that has caused some frustration in the past, particularly in the US and something one we're very much aiming to improve on. The timing of the releases of our Mystery Boxes on previous years have been, simply put, rather inoptimal from the order fulfilment and logistics perspective. This has caused situations where customers have been forced to wait for their boxes to arrive for frustratingly long periods of time.

This time around we're starting the Mystery Season significantly earlier than ever before to make sure we have the resources we need to get the boxes to you in reasonable time. That being said, Mystery Box releases always translate to busy times at the warehouse so not all orders can get shipped out in our typical same or next day pace. This time around we aim keep the delays to a minimum though, as we know how irritating it can be to keep checking for the shipping updates that feel like they never come. The great news for all you gift shoppers out there is that as the Red Edition release happens a lot earlier this year, there's ample time to receive your order before the end of year holidays.

Footnotes

Now there's a few things we'd like to address that fall a bit in the random category. These Mystery Box projects come with tons of variables to keep track of and while we'd like to do everything perfect, sometimes we need to make some compromises.

Premier discs will make their way into Mystery Boxes in 2026.

First thing to address within this realm is the our Premier Technology. We know you might've heard Discmania Premier is the best thing since sliced bread and don't get us wrong, it really is pretty awesome. This technology allows advanced weight distribution that simply makes discs fly farther. The thing is backed by science, not just some marketing buzzwords. However, as we're still in somewhat early stages of producing this breakthrough innovation, the timeline for including discs using Premiere technology in 2025 Mystery Boxes simply did not work out. So while your box will be stacked with super awesome and exclusive products, there won't yet be Premier products in these boxes. We wrote up a whole thing about it earlier, so go check that out if you like.

The second thing we want to bring up here is the actual physical boxes. We and our fans alike love the iconic Red Box design for good reason, but for these renewed boxes we're rolling out now, those aren't necessarily the most optimal, since there's quite a bit of extra space. Back when there was something like 1 featured, purpose-produced product in each box and the rest was a bit more of a random collection of discs, the red boxes worked well, as the more random nature of the contents allowed for more discs per box. Now that we've stripped away the fluff and gone all in on the specials (and didn't want to push up the price), there's a bit fewer discs, which translates a bit more free space.

The free space is great if you're planning to add a bit of extra to your order - You can easily add up to 5 discs and we can still ship the whole thing conveniently in a single box. If you choose to do this, you'll find the Mystery Box content underneath a flyer, so you're able to grab the extras and still the keep the Mystery intact - If you can resist the urge to peek. The reason we're still using the classic Red Boxes stems from something we already mentioned above. In the past, we've overshot the demand, leaving us with more boxes than we needed. So for 2025 we had a good bit of those left and decided to give this red box design one more go, possibly the last one. Plans for 2026 are still being formed, but it's pretty likely we're now seeing the farewell tour if this particular Mystery Box design.

This year likely represents the last time we use the classic Red Box design.

While we're still in the topic of boxes, if you're familiar with them, you'll know there's a nifty little secret compartment on the bottom. Using the secret compartment made a lot of sense back when we had that one featured item we particularly made for the boxes. These days it's more like we have around 50 featured items, so using the compartment doesn't really make equal sense. For these boxes, we sort of left the choice on whether or not use the secret compartment up to the individual people assembling the boxes - probably not our brightest moment - which will likely result in a sort of a mixed bag on whether all discs can be found from the main compartment or there's a disc tucked away in the bottom slot.

So no need to be alarmed if your box doesn't have a disc in the secret compartment. Inside your box you'll find a flyer stating how many discs there should be included. If the math adds up, you're all good. Again we know this not really optimal, but we figured being frank about this would be a lot better than staying silent and/or replying to the inevitable feedback with some generic corporate BS.

Now go get yours!

The Red Edition boxes go live on Friday, Nov 7th.

If you made it this far, good on you! We do put a lot of time and effort on our Mystery Box campaign every year and communicating all the intricate details that surround these boxes, while still keeping the Mystery a Mystery, is not always simple. While there's naturally always a lot of marketing fluff involved, we do take a lot of pride in trying to be as upfront and honest in what you should expect in your box, should you choose to get some. This year we really wanted to turn things around and mold the concept into something that really addresses the critique we've received in the past.

We recognize that, in the current economy, the box price is a significant purchase for many. And with disc prices rising overall, having fewer discs than in previous years may seem like a downgrade. However, we believe the real value comes from removing the “filler” discs and focusing entirely on top-tier selections. When you factor in the multi-box discounts and free shipping, we feel the overall deal is genuinely strong — and we hope you’ll feel the same.
