Last weekend was the last big weekend of the year for PDGA sanctioned events. The main headline of course was the 2014 US Disc Golf Championship, held once again on Winthrop Gold course in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The USDGC is a rare tournament for Discmania, as it's one of the very few events our CEO Jussi Meresmaa still attends as pro player on somewhat regular basis. Nowadays more recognised for being one of the most resourceful promoters in our sport, Jussi can still light up the course at the USDGC even though involvement in countless international Disc Golf projects and a family of 3 kids rarely allow any time for real practise.
Since this was a special occasion, we decided to run a special contest on our Facebook page, in which the audience could guess who will get the top placement at the USDGC: CEO Jussi Meresmaa or the Team Discmania super talent Simon Lizotte. After 4 exciting rounds of play, Jussi was able to play his strengths on his 10th USDGC visit and came on top of the duel with a score of -10 against Simon's total of -9. Another great performance by a Team Discmania member was shown by Nathan Sexton, who was hanging on the top 2 groups the whole tournament, eventually placing on the 6th place after the final round with a total of -16. The father to be and living Disc Golf legend Avery Jenkins finished at -8, just one shot behind his protege Simon Lizotte.
Stampfer is the new German Champion
Discmania Tour Team member Dominik Stampfer was also on fire last weekend at German Disc Golf Championships. Dominik took the lead on the first round of play at the event for the national title and never let go of the lead over the course of the 5,5 round tournament. Stampfer's stellar game is clearly visible in his round ratings of the event as he averaged at 1029, a whopping 42 rating points above his current rating of 987. We think it's safe to assume that with performances like the one last week, that rating is about to go up and fast.
Discmania Promotion Team members Jerome Braun and Kevin Konsorr concluded the great weekend for Team Discmania at the German Championships with their 4th and 5th place finishes respectively.
