Going into the 2019 season, Team Discmania continues to grow with four additions to our Pro Team. Each member was found through the Discmania Combine in 2018. We’ve said for a few years now that the Combine is the best way to land a spot on Team Discmania and we’re very impressed by these four upcoming disc golfers.
From Cary, Illinois, Opfer started playing disc golf because of friends and is a very analytical and competitive disc golfer. He plays because it brings him happiness and says he never felt the passion for anything else like he has for disc golf.
“Joining the team means that my hard work is paying off. This is just the beginning and I'm thrilled to be part of the team.”
Team Manager Avery Jenkins on Opfer: “Kyle Opfer is an up and coming player from the 2018 Discmania Combine as he impressed the staff with his undeniable athletic talent that led to a standout performance. He is recently made the transition from the amateur ranks to professional as the Illinois State Champion and a Top-10 finish at the Amateur World Championships. He has the potential to be a dominate player in the midwest region and throughout the country if given the opportunity to go on tour."
From Graham, North Carolina, McCoy has grown up around disc golf his entire life.
“My dad was a very strong pro player when I was growing up and has taught me a lot about the game. I’m ecstatic to team up with Discmania.”
Team Manager Avery Jenkins on McCoy: “Jacob McCoy is an emerging player from the East Coast that has been playing Pro for a number of years even given his young age. He comes from a disc golf family as I actually competed against his father many years ago, and if he’s anything like his father I have complete faith in his skill and ability. Discmania has great expectations for Jacob in the upcoming season.“
From Kenosha, Wisconsin, Pennington first found disc golf while on a family vacation in Minnesota. She didn’t take it seriously until she moved to Wisconsin after college and joined the Disc On! Ladies League.
“I am very proud to be increasing the FPO representation on Team Discmania! I’m excited to be part of a growing, innovative company, and in addition to improving my own game I’m looking forward to supporting my teammates at tournaments and helping bring more women and girls into the sport I love so much.”
Team Manager Avery Jenkins on Pennington: “Casey Pennington is an aspiring player from the upper Midwest that proved that she has what it takes to compete at the highest levels with her performance at the 2018 Discmania Combine. This previous season was her first year playing all pro events with several Top-5 finishes. Her passion for growing women’s disc golf radiates from her as we believe that she will bring a whole new perspective to Team Discmania in 2019."
From Junction city, Oregon, Anderson is another competitive addition to Team Discmania. Having played many sports in high school and baseball in college, Anderson picked up disc golf after his collegiate career. Inspired by all the great disc golfers coming out of the northwest, Anderson is ready for the next level.
“I play for the love of the game and the pursuit of the perfect round. Now that I made Team Discmania, I’m even more motivated to become the best player I can be and a better ambassador for the game of disc golf.”
Team Manager Avery Jenkins on Anderson: “Justin Anderson is a surging player in the Northwest that has really stepped it up over the past few seasons after moving up to pro. He played an impressive 28 events picking up several top 5 finishes including a win at the Pac-West Classic. Known for his powerful backhand and forehand combination, he has incredible scoring potential that should prove successful in the upcoming 2019 season.”
