McMahon Second, Lizotte Fourth at San Francisco Open; Two Others in Top 15

Tour / Promotions

Multiple members of Team Discmania flirted with the lead throughout the San Francisco Open during the Memorial Day weekend event on the Disc Golf Pro Tour.

Simon Lizotte held the first round lead while Eagle McMahon was not far behind. After the three round event, the pair found themselves just short of the ultimate goal with a second place finish for McMahon as Lizotte finished in a tie for fourth.

Team Discmania also saw Avery Jenkins, Grady Shue, and Colten Montgomery put in strong performances.

McMahon and Lizotte Card Top Four Finishes

The San Francisco Open proved to be a tournament with little room for error. After the first round of play, Lizotte’s 54 (-8) gave him a one shot lead over McMahon and Paul McBeth with many others just a few shots behind including Montgomery and Jenkins.

The leaderboard saw quite the jumble in round two after Lizotte’s 61 (-1) saw a number of pros leap frog him in the standings. Lizotte ran into trouble on the final hole of the day taking a triple bogey which put him in a tie for 10th with just 18 holes remaining.

McMahon on the other hand found himself in a three-way tie for 3rd and just two shots behind McBeth and Ricky Wysocki after round two. His second set of 18 holes was highlighted by five straight birdies starting on Hole 10.

With gusty wins in play for the final round, McMahon found himself on the chase card. He played aggressive at times, but picked his spots carefully encounters to a second straight 57 (-5). Thanks to a bogey by Wysocki on the final hole, McMahon finished the tournament in sole possession of second place, just two shots behind McBeth who took home the win.

Lizotte had a better time in round three when compared to his second round. He also picked his chances carefully and worked his way back up the leaderboard and capped off his tournament with three birdies in the final five holes to finish in a tie for fourth.

Jenkins, Shue, Montgomery Battle Hard

While Avery Jenkins doesn’t tour as much as he has in the past, he still shows he can hang with any of the sport’s top players after his finish this past weekend. Jenkins finished just off the top-10 as his -11 for the tournament was good enough for a tie for 11th place.

Grady Shue also remained hot and saved his best golf for the final round in San Francisco. Shue’s -8 (54) was the hot round of the day on Sunday and helped him jump 23 spots to a tie for 13th to end the tournament.

Grady Shue continues to play strong.

Finally, Colten Montgomery started out the tournament strong and found himself in the mix to start the final round. A tough start to Round Three saw Montgomery slide a bit down the leaderboard until he finished the three round event in a tie for 22nd.
