Alex Meulenbeld is from Johannesburg, South Africa, and was first introduced to disc golf in 2012 during a visit to the United States. His half-brother noticed how much he enjoyed throwing frisbees and suggested he give disc golf a try.

n 2014, Alex returned to the U.S. and spent a year playing regularly, where he quickly grew a strong passion for the sport. After moving back to South Africa, he found that disc golf was still largely unknown, with only a small group of players involved at the time.

In 2018, Alex and his father took an important step in growing the sport locally by building a new disc golf course. The course became a key meeting point for the South African disc golf community and helped drive the sport’s development in the country.

By 2020, South Africa began hosting organized events, and Alex continued to compete and improve. Over the next few years, he established himself as one of the country’s top players, winning multiple national titles and helping bring international attention to disc golf in Africa.
